Just a few more pictures from Nags Head and the Outer Banks. I have a video of the ocean that I plan to put on at some point, but unfortunately don't have it with me this morning, so I'll have to do it another time.

This is the beach at that point of day where the sun has faded and the color is leached from everything. You can see the tracks of the vehicles that have driven up and down the sand.

Another picture from late in the day, the sand and water are taking on a decidedly gray color as night begins to fall. Even though it was getting dark, it was still wonderful to watch the waves roll in and to listen to the sounds of the ocean.

One of the piers at the Outer Banks. When I was a little girl we used to go to the beach and my dad always went out fishing on the piers. My mom and I would wander up and down the beach looking for sharks teeth and shells, and then would eventually go out to see how Dad was faring. Going out on those piers were always the terror of my day...being able to see the water ebbing and flowing so far underneath the gaps in the boards scared me half to death...and God forbid the wind be blowing and the pier would sway! Mom had to practically drag me along! These days, I can look at the pier and common sense says, "It's stood for many many years, sometimes bearing the weight of a hundred or more fishermen, and has even stood through hurricanes...it must be sturdy", and at the same time I'm thinking, "How on earth is that thing still standing? It's held up by spindley little posts!" I swear, I don't know how they stay up...even though those are thick pilons and they're anchored deep, they look like the Pick-Up Sticks we played with as children! I still don't think I could walk out to the end of one without getting scared, even now that I'm an adult.

This one was from earlier in the day...I can't wait to go back to the Outer Banks and to see all of this again....and get more pictures, of course!!
